Broadband Virginity

With my move to Chicago, came a new and fulfilling change. I am now using broadband! Yeah, not very exciting. I've been filling my spare time with my adventures into things I've missed. I've caught up with the Red Vs. Blue: Reconstruction, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and was introduced to The Guild. I've also delved deeper into GridStream Productions media archives and found some really hilarious stuff. Check them out and send me some recommendations.

Other things I've done in Chicago

I did forget to mention that I signed up with Meetup.com and joined a group and attended a Meetup event.  It was at a nice bar/restaurant in the middle of a very nice neighborhood in the Lincoln Park area.  Unfortunately, it was a Friday night and we got seats near some speakers.  Talking, or rather, listening to other people was difficult.  I still meet a few people so that's good.  I'm looking forward to attend some more meetings as well as join a few more groups.

One Small Step

"One small step into Chicago...

One giant leap back inside where it's warmer."
Anthony ~ January 2009 ~ 8 inches of snow

So I now live in Chicago.  For the few weeks I've been here, I really haven't done too much.  I like snow.  I love it so much that I don't want to go outside and disturb it.  I haven't spent my whole time here at the place I'm renting from.  I've been to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Science and Industry, and Seattle's Best inside Borders.

Museum of Science and Industry
While taking advantage of the free days to visit this museum, I only toured maybe 25% of it.  While I like seeing stuff about science, it was difficult enough getting around the school kids.  I spent most of my time visiting the area in and around where they are exhibiting a World War II U-Boat (German Submarine).  I like these sort of things, so it was up my alley.

Museum of Contemporary Art
My roommate(rentee) was kind enough to show me a little downtown.  Our first stop was the MCA.  What can I say?  I'm just not into art like everyone else.  I just like looking at things.  There were some interesting exhibit though.  Many of the exhibits you couldn't take a photo of.  It's a popular trend at art galleries and museums.

Borders
So we walked around downtown Chicago and I happened to see a Borders.  As it was cold, I suggested that we could stop in to warm up and get something to drink.  We looked around at the local maps section.  I wanted to get a better, detailed map of Chicago and surrounding areas as the one I have only gives details for the downtown section of Chicago.  After failing in finding a map/guide that was under $15, we went upstairs for some coffee and to sit around for a little bit.

Other places
I've been to a few other places in town like grocery and general stores.  I've also visited some fast food locations here.  I've had a Chicago Gyro, but haven't had a Chicago hot dog.  I might wait for warm weather to try one.  I'm a frequent customer to the local White Castle.

As you can see, I really haven't down squat the few weeks I've been here.  I need to handle a few things first.  Most importantly is getting a job.  I moved up here with the understanding that I'd transfer to a new location with the company I'm with.  Yeah that didn't happen.  While I'm technically still employed with the company, I'm not getting paid.  Need to handle that part quicker than I am currently handling it.  If you know any businesses in Chicage that are looking for someone with 6 years of management experience and/or 4 years of food service experience (preferably in Baking), be so kind as to forward them to me.

As of the beginning of 2009, I have become a new resident in Chicago. I could blog about my experiences here, about just whatever I'm thinking, or rarely at all.
